Every AI platform has its favorite sources
Search-grounded answers reveal not just whether a brand gets mentioned but which sources the model leans on. In Achtung.app's own measurement series since May 14, 2026, Gemini visibly cited Reddit in 14.2 percent of its answers, while Perplexity cited YouTube in 44.7 percent of its answers. Two recurring patterns:
- Reddit showed up visibly only on Gemini. Reddit appeared in 14.2 percent of 948 Gemini queries; the other providers cited it in none of over 2,000 queries.
- Perplexity cited YouTube strikingly often. 44.7 percent of 948 Perplexity queries cited at least one video; for the remaining providers the share stayed below 3 percent of their queries.
Share of answers citing YouTube
Per provider, percent of all answers. Sample: 948 queries each for Perplexity, Gemini, and ChatGPT since May 14, 2026.
Share of answers citing Reddit
Same sample and scale as above.
The shares cover 948 daily queries each to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity; Claude runs weekly and contributes a smaller sample that does not appear in the charts.
For brands this means there is no single platform you must be on. Industry directories, review platforms, Reddit threads, and YouTube videos carry different weight depending on the provider. A brand that only tends its own website covers none of these channels.
The analysis measures visible source citations in search-grounded answers, not the models' internal training or ranking sources. How the numbers are produced: see the methodology.
